HOW TO USE THE CALCULATOR

From pixels to a useful physical size.

Enter the pixel dimensions, then choose whether the calculation represents a printed image or the 96-pixel CSS reference.

  1. 01

    Enter the dimensions

Type the width and height, or choose an image to detect its pixel dimensions privately in your browser.

  2. 02

    Choose the PPI

Use 300 PPI for detailed prints, 150–240 PPI for larger prints, or 96 PPI for CSS reference-unit conversion.

  3. 03

    Read the result

The calculator shows inches and centimetres without resizing the image or inventing pixels.

PRINT EXAMPLE

What size is 3000 × 2400 pixels?

At 300 PPI, divide each pixel dimension by 300. The result is a 10 × 8 inch print, or approximately 25.4 × 20.3 cm.

3000 ÷ 300 = 10 in2400 ÷ 300 = 8 in

CSS VS PRINT

“Pixels per inch” has two different contexts.

CSS defines 96 CSS pixels per CSS inch as a reference conversion, so 96 px converts to 1 CSS inch. A printed photograph instead uses the output resolution you choose, such as 300 pixels per printed inch.

96 CSS px ÷ 96 = 1 CSS in300 image px ÷ 300 PPI = 1 print in

HOW IT WORKS

A clear answer, with the math to match.

Formulasize in inches = pixels ÷ PPI

A 3000 × 2400 px image at 300 PPI prints at 10 × 8 inches; 960 CSS pixels equal 10 CSS inches at the 96 px reference ratio.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Useful context, not filler.

How many pixels are in one inch?

For CSS reference-unit conversion, one CSS inch equals 96 CSS pixels. For printing, the number depends on the chosen output resolution—for example, 300 image pixels per printed inch at 300 PPI.

Is DPI the same as PPI?

PPI describes image pixels per printed inch. DPI technically describes printer dots, although the terms are often used interchangeably in print workflows.

What resolution should I use for photos?

300 PPI is a common target for close-viewed photographs. Posters can often look good at 150–240 PPI because they are viewed from farther away.

Does changing DPI add detail?

No. Changing only the DPI or PPI value changes the intended physical size, not the number of pixels or actual image detail.
