HOW IT WORKS

A clear answer, with the math to match.

Formulanew height = new width × original height ÷ original width

1920 × 1080 simplifies to 16:9. At 1280 px wide, the proportional height is 720 px.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Useful context, not filler.

What is an aspect ratio?

It is the proportional relationship between an image's width and height, expressed as numbers such as 4:3, 3:2, or 16:9.

Does resizing change the aspect ratio?

Not when width and height are scaled proportionally. Changing only one dimension stretches or compresses the image.

Why do some print sizes crop my photo?

The paper and image may have different aspect ratios. Filling the entire print requires cropping part of the image.
