CONVERT JPG TO PNG

A simple converter with useful controls.

PNG is useful when a service specifically requests PNG or when you want lossless saving for later edits. Conversion preserves the visible JPG pixels but cannot invent transparency or restore lost detail.

  1. STEP 01

    Choose a JPG

Select a JPG or JPEG from your device. The original size and dimensions appear locally.

  2. STEP 02

    Keep PNG selected

Leave dimensions unchanged for conversion only, or resize proportionally at the same time.

  3. STEP 03

    Download the PNG

Preview the converted file, check its actual size, and download it with a .png extension.

WHEN PNG HELPS

Graphics and repeated editing.

PNG uses lossless compression, which suits screenshots, text-heavy graphics, and files that will be edited and saved again. It can also store transparency when the source already contains it.

IMPORTANT LIMIT

Conversion is not background removal.

A JPG has no transparent pixels. Turning it into PNG preserves its existing background; it does not automatically make white areas transparent.

HOW IT WORKS

A clear answer, with the math to match.

FormulaPNG output = decoded JPG pixels encoded with lossless PNG compression

A 1600 × 1200 JPG remains 1600 × 1200 when converted at 100%, although the PNG file may be larger because PNG uses lossless compression.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Useful context, not filler.

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

Choose a JPG or JPEG file, leave PNG selected as the output format, optionally change its dimensions, and select Resize & convert to PNG. Then review and download the new file.

Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?

No. PNG prevents additional lossy compression, but it cannot restore detail already removed when the JPG was created. The PNG may also be larger than the original JPG.

Will JPG to PNG create a transparent background?

No. Converting formats does not automatically remove a background. Any white or colored background already present in the JPG remains in the PNG.

Is my JPG uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion and resizing use your browser's built-in image and canvas features. The file stays on your device.

Can I change the dimensions while converting?

Yes. Enter a new width or height, keep the aspect-ratio lock enabled, or choose a percentage before converting to PNG.
